SSC CGL Tier-2 syllabus, paper, And Books

Staff selection commission or SSC conducts open competitive recruitment exam for post group of ‘B’ and ‘C’ know as SSC CGL. CGL stands for combined graduate level exam. As its name indicates educational qualification for this exam is graduation in any field. This exam is conducted in 4 tiers. Candidates have to qualify each tier separately. After qualifying tier-1 or Pre exam candidates have to take tier 2 of the exam commonly known as SSC CGL Mains. In this article we are going to discuss ssc cgl tier- 2 mains syllabus, books , exam pattern and SSC CGL Tier 2 preparation strategy.

SSC CGL Exam Tier-2 Papers

There is four papers in ssc cgl tier 2. While English Language and Quantitative Aptitude is compulsory for everyone, paper 3 i.e. statistics is for candidates who have applied for JSO( junior statistical officer) and paper 4 i.e. Finance and accounting is for AAO( assistant audit officer). You can leave paper-3 or paper-4 if you don’t want to appear. your candidature will be considered for every post except JSO or AAO.

In Tier-II, there will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV

  1. English: English is compulsory for all in ssc cgl mains. strategy to prepare English for ssc cgl tier-2
  • For vocabulary: Read the Hindu. Write the new words you encounter. Reading The Hindu newspaper also help you to comprehend better which results in good marks in reading comprehension section. You can also follow Plinth to paramount.
  • For idioms, one word substitution, antonyms and synonyms you can follow Plinth to paramount or Objective English by SP Bakshi. I will recommend you to go through the both books. You can do idioms and one word from Plinth to Paramount. Vocabulary like antonym and synonym can be done from Objective English by SP Bakshi as this book contains good vocabulary part.
  • For common error: you must follow the book ” Mirror of Common Error” by Ashok Kumar. Just do this book two to three times and remember the rules. You don’t need to do anything. This book is more than enough.
  • Grammar: Grammar is very good in Plinth to Paramount book. Just read and remember the rule. After reading any chapter, just go through the exercise of that particular chapter. This will help you to clear the concept you have learned.

2. Quantitative aptitude :Quantitative aptitude is high scoring subject of ssc cgl. Secret to get good marks in this section is practice. Practice as much as you can. For arithmetic you cal follow Rakesh Yadav 7300 math or Kiran mathematics. For Advance math you can follow Quantum Cat by Sarvesh Kumar. Do maximum previous year questions.

3. Statistics: just rad the statistics syllabus provided above and go through some standard books. we are providing some book names such as ” SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination by Sanjeev joon or ” SSC Combined Graduate Level Mains Exam ” by arihant experts. This will serve the purpose.

4. General Studies (Finance & Economics) : First of all read the syllabus of this section from the table provided above. There is other books better than NCERT for this section. You can check the syllabus and read those concepts from NCERT class 10th amd 12th books. Practice previous year questions. You will get familiar with how questions are framed for ssc cgl finance and accounting paper.
